Katie's journey in performing arts

From the tender age of three, Katie's love for the stage was ignited at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Her formative years were richly immersed in the arts, with training in Ballet, Gymnastics, and Freestyle Disco. Along with excelling in competitions and examinations, she pursued private lessons in singing, piano, and dance.

Performing in her local choir and growing up in a family steeped in theatrical tradition — including her sister Lian Fisher, the former Principal of Solihull's Learning Curves School of Dance — further enriched her artistic upbringing.

Academic excellence and professional training

Driven by her innate passion for performance and storytelling, Katie pursued Theatre Studies at Stratford-upon-Avon College during her A-Levels, engaging with the Royal Shakespeare Company and industry professionals through regular workshops.

She continued her academic journey at Leeds University's Performing Arts Academy — Bretton Hall — earning a BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts and Acting for Broadcast Media. Her training spanned acting for stage, television, and radio, alongside diverse dance and vocal disciplines. An inspiring collaboration with David Jason during this period further fuelled her professional growth.

Transition to teaching and professional achievements

Post-graduation, Katie founded her own dance school and completed her teacher training. Her credentials include a professional IDTA Associate Freestyle Dance qualification, a UKA Associate in Contemporary Dance, and a specialist Directing qualification from Central School, Birmingham.

Her expertise extends to delivering lectures for the IDTA Midlands Regional Congress and serving as a local adjudicator.

Star-Struck today

Katie is immensely proud of the thriving academy she has built over the past two decades. Supported by a committed team of educators — including her daughter, who is embarking on her own teaching journey — Star-Struck has flourished into both a recreational and competitive dance training community with a full timetable and a growing waiting list.

The academy has proudly represented the Midlands region at Blackpool and boasts a 100% pass rate in IDTA examinations.
